I love using Bison! It's very nutrient dense and contains conjugated linoleic acid (I know, what the heck does that mean?), which means Bison has anti-inflammatory properties.
Here are the other reasons why I love using Bison in place of ground beef:
Higher amounts of omega three fatty acids.
More b12, zinc, iron, and selenium than beef.
Some studies show it's got four times the vitamin E compared to beef.
Lower in calories and cholesterol.
It is lower fat, so it will cook faster than ground beef.
My friends at BB are offering a deal that they've never offered to anyone! I had to say "pretty please" a couple of times, and guess what? It worked! I can't tell you how long they will offer this deal to me, but here it is:

45: Can a Lack of Sleep Cause Cancer? Getting Better Rest with Sleep Expert Devin Burke
I haven't been a good sleeper for the last twenty years or so. I overthink, and then I seem to get myself "worked up;" it takes me hours to fall asleep. Add in Covid and breast cancer, and I can tell you the last two years have been rough. This is why I was so excited to welcome sleep expert Devin Burke to today's podcast episode.
One of Devin's tips was to start my day with a glass of water and then coffee. He suggests I go outside and look toward the sun (never at the sun!), drink my water, and wait an hour before coffee.
I'm not sure I can do it, but I'm giving it a shot :)
Here's the sleep tip I've already started to incorporate, and I'm telling you, it's helping me to fall asleep faster.
Devin suggests going outside for five minutes a couple of times per day. The point is to give your brain a break and not try to solve any problems.
He concludes that giving your brain some downtime helps to encourage your body to sleep deeper at night.
This is harder than it sounds, so I had to leave my phone inside.
Give this episode a listen to hear more sleep tips that actually work!

I'm picky about fish. I will only purchase wild fish, and yes, I'm that obnoxious person that asks the waitstaff in restaurants where they got the fish! I know that wild is healthier, and this is why I love ButcherBox wild salmon!
Recent studies show that higher fish consumption is associated with improved immune function. The study, which looked at the cancer-fighting effects of the Mediterranean diet, found that people who reported eating less fish and more red meat showed several common abnormalities in their blood that suggested a higher risk of cancer.
Wild and smaller fish, such as salmon, are anti-inflammatory and associated with better brain, hormonal, and nervous system health.

21. Clean Beauty – A Conversation with Gabriel of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc.
I was shocked when Gabriel told me that we each have 5-7 pounds of skin and that our skin is our biggest organ. The skin works as a filter, so what goes on our skin goes into our bodies. Yikes! It made me think about what types of products I use on my skin, hair, and nails.
Ironically, I just returned from my annual National Association of Nutritional Professionals conference. One of the speakers mentioned that within 4 minutes of using nail polish, the chemicals from the polish hit our bloodstream.
When you hear two messages within days that sound the same, I know it's a sign!
One of my big takeaways from my conversation with Gabriel is how we can make our own or DIY natural products. For example, he likes to use Jojoba oil as a moisturizer, and he cooks with essential oils.
Listen to the podcast episode to learn more of his DIY secrets!
Gabriel De Santino is the founder and CEO of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc., a global natural beauty empire whose brands include Gabriel, Zuzu Luxe, and Clean Kids Naturally. Born of Latin descent and raised off the coast of Mexico, Gabriel, at an early age, was naturally drawn to the coastal life and heavily influenced by his grandmother's holistic practices. At the age of 18, Gabriel moved to Seattle, Washington. He knew the Pacific Northwest had a rising fashion and beauty scene and joined the movement at a local beauty counter. It was there that Gabriel fell in love with makeup but was also inspired to look past the made-up face. He soon secured a position at a salon & spa to learn more about the industry and how he may change it. After attending aesthetician school, he quickly discovered he wanted to first correct the skin before covering it up, a mantra he still practices today. As an aesthetician, he struggled because women were using toxic products on their skin. But, given his background as a naturopath and familiarity with sea botanicals, his calling was loud and clear.
In 1992, he solicited his friends and family's moral and financial support. As a result, he started Gabriel Organics, a complete line of all-natural, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free skincare products made with seaweed as its hero ingredient. Gabriel Cosmetic Inc.'s prestige and diverse brand portfolio were created out of one man's vision of clearly defining natural beauty and being able to provide affordable and accessible vegan beauty products to consumers worldwide. Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc. is headquartered in its original area of Redmond, Washington, with over 25 employees and its fearless leader, Gabriel De Santino, leading the charge every step of the way.

44: Things I Wish I’d Known Thirty Years Ago, But I Know Now!
The old pre-cancer me was too busy to take the time to see how someone was doing. I found my identity in being busy.
Busy is not my true identity.
Being busy was a distraction that kept me from connecting to people and activities that I loved.
It's never a "waste of time" to connect with someone.
The post-cancer me has discovered the importance of "being" instead of "doing."
Eating is one of the critical components of staying healthy! When you eat, be present; look at your food, not your computer screen.
Take a deep breath before you react to situations or the people around you.
Work to stay at peace with those around you. I'm still working on this one :)
The new me finds her identity in being generous with people, asking how people are, and praying for them. As a result, I get just as much accomplished every day, and my stress levels are lower because I've taken the time to connect with people and be present in my daily surroundings.
Give the podcast a listen to discover the health habits I wish I had started 30 years ago.

43: Can the Body Heal Itself from Cancer or Autoimmune Disorders?
I loved my conversation with Holistic Nurse Practitioner Alyssa Siegel.
Alyssa is not afraid to go against big pharma to tell us how to use pharmaceutical alternatives, such as supplements and tinctures.
She believes that the body can heal itself if we create a healthy environment so our bodies can thrive.
She is in hot pursuit of trying to find out what made her patients ill in the first place; what's the root cause of why they're sick?
She believes that the body is designed to heal itself and that you can recover if you can lower your toxin load. She also talks about the emotional aspect of illness and how that can be a considerable contributor to staying sick.
She was also very candid that the food most of us consume is very inflammatory, and it's difficult to heal when your body is in a state of inflammation.
She offered doable health hacks so that your body can heal itself!

42: Do Dryer Sheets Increase Indoor Air Pollution?
If you’re not breathing well, you’re not WELL!
This episode is part two of my conversation with Wendy, a toxins lawyer, and clean-living coach. We had a candid and, at times, shocking conversation about indoor air quality and cleaning products.
Wendy told me indoor air quality could be 2-5 more polluted than outdoor air. And since, on average, we spend 90% of our time indoors, the quality of our indoor air matters.
A doctor told me many years ago that if you're not breathing well, you're not well.
We also have an interesting discussion about household cleaning products and the pollution they can bring into your space.
Wendy shared with me that she used to have terrible migraines. She was living in Italy when her daughter was born, and her daughter was suffering from a skin disorder. Her Italian pediatrician suggested she get rid of all synthetic fragrances in her home (laundry detergent and cleaning supplies); she did, and her daughter's skin was healed, and Wendy also got rid of her migraines!

41: Is Tap Water Safe to Drink?
A candid conversation with a toxins lawyer and health coach
If you're going to only listen to one of my podcast episodes this year, THIS IS THE ONE!
Wendy is a Toxins Lawyer and clean-living coach, and we had a candid and, at times, frightening conversation about tap water and cancer risk.
Before cancer, I would say that I was suspicious but still trusting; for example, if the water was coming out of my tap, I believed the government was doing its job to keep us safe.
Then the train derailed in Ohio, and within days the local government was telling its citizens the water was just fine.
I'm not a water expert, but I know enough to figure out that the water is unfit for consumption when thousands of chemicals get dumped into local waterways.
Wendy explained that when the clean water act was signed in 1974 that it worked well for the next 15 years. Then the local water companies decided they couldn't keep up with the water testing regulations, so the clean water act was amended. The EPA left it up to the discretion of individual water agencies to test or not test.
Since then, only two additional contaminants have been added to the list of chemicals to be aware of. And let's be honest; new chemicals are being created yearly in our country. Sadly, this is an example of buyer beware; we can no longer trust the water from our tap.
Here are my questions:
1. What's in my local water?
Go to this site to check out what contaminants might be in your local tap: EWG Tap Water Database.
2. What can we do to drink water without contaminants?
Filter, filter, filter! Wendy discusses her fav filters in this podcast episode.
3. How much is this going to cost me?
Wendy says this is the most critical first step to detoxing, so it will cost money; UGH! But she has multiple suggestions for filters at a variety of price points.

40: Why Does God Allow Suffering?
A candid conversation with Tara Leigh Cobble of the Bible Recap
Confession time! This seems fitting since I just interviewed one of the most popular bible teachers on the planet. 😊
I bought my first bible when I was in my thirties. I tried hard to understand it, but I often got more confused. Finally, I connected with proverbs; that chapter was easy to understand because I could quickly apply it to my daily life.
I discovered today's guest, Tara Leigh Cobble (TLC), a few months ago; she has a podcast where she makes the bible both fun and interesting, all in less than ten minutes a day! I can do that!
I had many questions for God during my cancer journey, like why did this happen to me? I exercise and eat healthy food, and I'm nice to people. Why, why, and more why?
I wanted to see what God had to say about suffering, so I went to the top to get answers about what God says about cancer and other diseases. Can it make us better people? Is there a reason we suffer?
I must tell you that Tara Leigh has had more than her fair share of suffering, including being electrocuted during surgery to repair her heart.
Give today's episode a listen; it might answer some questions you didn't even know you had!
Tara-Leigh Cobble (taraleighcobble.com) is the creator and host of The Bible Recap podcast and the author of the book by the same name. 39: Putting ‘Junk’ in Your Heart Will Make You Sick
A candid conversation with Dr. Henry Cloud
Being vulnerable makes me uncomfortable, especially considering how I "used to be" before cancer.
Before cancer, it was crucial to me to be liked. So, "to make" people like me, I didn't always share my opinions or let people get to know the "real me."
When I received the cancer diagnosis, everything changed.
Suddenly, I had to save my energy for healing, and I stopped caring if people liked me. I then started to look at some of my relationships. Some of my friendships needed better boundaries, and I needed to manage my expectations about the friendship.
All of a sudden, I FELT FREE. I felt lighter and truly began to enjoy the people in my life.
I first heard Dr. Cloud, author of Boundaries, on the radio twenty-five years ago.
So, you can imagine how delighted I was when Dr. Cloud agreed to come on my podcast to discuss how our relationships can impact our health.
My specific question to him was this, "can a lack of boundaries or being co-dependent contribute to cancer risk?"
You've got to hear his surprising answer!
Dr. Henry Cloud is an acclaimed leadership expert, clinical psychologist, and New York Times bestselling author. His 45 books, including the iconic Boundaries, have sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide. 38: Can a Lack of Boundaries Contribute to Cancer Risk?
A candid conversation with Boundaries author, Dr. Henry Cloud.
I was 33, single, and struggling with boundaries. I always picked the wrong guy, and then the relationship would blow up, and I'd be crushed and have a crisis of confidence.
One day I was driving to a work appointment and switched on my radio and discovered Dr. Cloud on my local radio station. He spoke to my brokenness about my relationships. He taught me about boundaries in such a simple way! He stated that boundaries are like the locked door on a house; you unlock the door to let in the right people and keep it shut to keep the wrong people out!
You can imagine what a thrill it was for me to host Dr. Henry Cloud on my podcast! I was geeking out :) He's been my mentor and life coach for twenty-five years, and I've never even talked to him.
My focus of this interview was, can a lack of boundaries or being co-dependent contribute to cancer risk. Of course, I've been wondering if I've contributed to my cancer through the drama I've had in my personal life.
I found his answer surprising, so make sure you listen to part one of my interview with Dr. Cloud.
